Municipal Development Plan

The Town's Municipal Development Plan (MDP) is a policy-based plan that is required under the Section 632 of the Municipal Government Act, R.S.A. 2000, c.M-26. The Town's MDP is primarily intended to help guide how Strathmore will manage growth and development over the longer term. The Town’s current Municipal Development Plan (MDP) was adopted by Council on April 14, 2014, when Bylaw No. 14-03 was enacted. The MDP is monitored and reviewed on a regular basis, and updated and/or amended from time to time. For more information on amending the MDP, please visit the MDP Amendments webpage. Please note that the entire MDP is currently under review. |

MDP News & Highlights
- Bylaw No. 26-07 has now been posted for public review and comment. The commenting period will remain open up to and including the scheduling of a public hearing at Council. Any questions and/or comments pertaining to Module "A" and Bylaw No. 26-07 can be sent to strathmoreforward@strathmore.ca, or by regular mail to Town of Strathmore, c/o Project Manager (MDP Review), PO Box 2280, 1 Parklane Drive, Strathmore, Alberta, T1P 1K2.
- Bylaw No. 26-07 pertaining to Module "A" of the Town's MDP Review was presented in a Report to Council (AIR-26-072) to the Committee of the Whole on May 13, 2026, for preliminary feedback.
- The draft version of Module "A" to the Town's MDP Review has now been completed! Module "A" focuses on growth management, fiscal sustainability, economic development, and agricultural operations. Policy updates related to implementation, monitoring, and review have also been included, along with an updated introductory section that offers user-friendly explanations around the scope of the MDP and how it should be read, used, and interpreted. Other technical and stylistic updates include updated cover pages, table of contents, figures, and maps.
