Development & Building Permits

Under the Alberta Safety Codes Act, it is an offence to begin construction or building projects without a valid permit.

• Permits make sure these projects comply with the municipal planning policies, the Alberta Building Code and safety standards before work begins.

• Building Permits are required for most developments and some renovations. All work done under a Building, Electrical, Plumbing, or Gas permit must be inspected prior to approval.

• Proposed and Approved Development Permits are shared publicly. They identify if a proposed project might have impacts on nearby properties and people, or on the environment and provide an opportunity for feedback from neighbours, the community or affected organizations.
