Outdoors & Facility Maintenance

Outdoors & Facility Maintenance

The Town of Strathmore and surrounding area are blessed with beautiful outdoor landscapes from green parks and waterways for canoeing fishing, and skating in the winter! The Parks team works alongside our Operations crews to assist Mother Nature.

Our Parks team is proud to maintain over 275 acres of parks and green space to promote healthy, active living. We like to think we work in the background, but odds are you'll see us mowing, trimming, maintaining buildings and pathways, clearing snow, taking away trash and tending to the trees and flowers.

We also care for our outdoor facilities, including the Town's Strathmore Cemetery. With its historic markers and beautiful, serene environment, it is a landmark as well as a resting place treasured by the community.

We work to make your outdoors and park experiences amazing all year 'round include:

  • Mowing and trimming
  • Tree pruning
  • Infrastructure inspection
  • Gravel removal in green spaces
  • Garbage and litter clean up
  • Infrastructure maintenance and repair
  • Vegetation watering and weeding
  • Vegetation design and planting
  • Graffiti removal
  • Pathways snow and ice clearing
  • Weed and pest control
  • Park irrigation

Below are descriptions of the work for you. We take pride in making sure you enjoy our parks, pathways and facilities.

Share the Space and Respect the Rules

  • All outdoor recreational facilities are first come first serve.
  • Users are encouraged to share the space, showing respect for all and making room for users of all ages and abilities to recreate their own way.
  • Some facilities have user rules and regulations, all which are posted onsite, please respect the regulations and the facilities.
  • Note - Public washrooms at Kinsmen Park and Lambert Park are closed in the winter months.

Strathmore's pathway network consists of over 50 km of paved pathways that are maintained through out the year.

To learn more about snow clearing routes and prioritization, view the Winter Road, Pathway and Sidewalk Maintenance Policy.

Visit the Pathways Map to find a pathway near you.

The Parks Department works to keep our parks and outdoor spaces clean to enjoy:
  • Manages littering by placing and maintaining public garbage receptacles throughout Town.
  • Year 'round garbage clean up and green space clean up.
  • The graffiti program is to remove or cover graffiti that appears on Town property.
    • Graffiti includes undesirable message, scribbles and symbols not authorized by Town-issued permits. The unattractive results can require much work and expense to remove.

Parks Department supports seasonal holiday decorating and Town sponsored events:
  • Set up and tear down
  • Traffic and pedestrian control and
  • Assisting the organizers with other requests for events throughout the year.
To inquire on event support at Kinsmen Park or road closures for your event, connect with our Infrastructure team at 403-361-2108 / infrastructure@strathmore.ca.

We participate annually in the Provincial Communities in Bloom Program
