The Town is seeking a passionate and motivated Parks Operator to join our team. Reporting to the Parks Supervisor, this position is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Town’s parks, green spaces, playgrounds and other outdoor amenities. You will play a critical role in enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors by ensuring our parks are safe, well-maintained, and beautiful throughout all seasons.

Position Summary:
· Daily maintenance of parks, playgrounds, trails, sports fields, and outdoor public spaces, including mowing, trimming, planting, weeding and watering
· Inspect and maintain park equipment and infrastructure such as benches, signage, and playground apparatus to ensure safety and compliance with municipal standards
· Operate heavy-duty equipment and vehicles including, but not limited to, loaders, bucket trucks, and tandems
· Operate and maintain a variety of light-duty machinery & equipment including, but not limited to, 1-ton trucks, pick up trucks, skid steers, trailers, rough cut mowers, lifts, ride-on mowers, UTVs, pull-behind ice surfacers, and tractors
· Operate trimmers, backpack blowers, pumps, generators, chainsaws, stump grinders, sanders, post pounders, and various hand tools including shovels, brooms, rakes, hand tampers, drills, and hammers
· Assist with seasonal tasks, including snow removal, ice maintenance, tree pruning, and landscape preparation
· Monitor and report hazards, damage, and areas in need of repair to the Parks Supervisor
· Participation in the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems

Safety:
· This position is a Safety Sensitive position requiring fit-for-work status
· Requires a professional, cooperative, and positive attitude towards health and safety
· Responsible for personal health and safety and to protect the health and safety of other people at or in the vicinity of the worksite by following the OH&S Act, Regulation and Code as well as the Town’s safe work procedures, directives, policies, and industry best practices as outlined by the Town
· Participate in health and safety training moments, meetings, and exercises
· Refrain from causing or participating in harassment or violence
· Ensure work sites are maintained in a clean, safe manner to protect the safety of self, other Town personnel, and the public
· Report all unsafe or substandard conditions, acts, and events as soon as possible to immediate supervisor
Successful applicants will demonstrate on their resume:
· Grade 12 education or equivalent
· 3Q Alberta Driver’s Licence, with clean Driver’s Abstract (or able to obtain 3Q status in first 3 months)
· Post-secondary education or working towards a diploma or certificate in horticulture, landscaping, or related field considered an asset.
· 1-2 years experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or related field
Competencies assessed in the interview will include:
· The ability to work independently and also cooperatively in a team environment
· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
· Provide examples of your ability to be fit and able to perform manual labour in various weather conditions
· Provide examples of your passion for Parks!
· Ability to articulate being a strong problem-solver
