Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor, this position will play an integral role in maintaining the Town of Strathmore’s road network for safe public use.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor, the Public Works Operator is a key contributor within the Operations Department. This position requires both a strategic and hands-on role in providing an array of services around the Strathmore community.

Duties will include but are not limited to:
- General labour duties associated with hot patching, crack sealing, line painting, street sweeping, sign maintenance, catch basin maintenance, overland storm system maintenance and cemetery work.
- Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment, including but not limited to, hand and power tools, grader, wheel loader, excavator, skid steer, hydrovac, hot box, crack sealer, street sweeper, roll off truck, water truck, plow truck, dump truck
- Assist in set up and tear down of special events, as required
- Perform excavation, trenching, and detailed finishing work
- Grade gravel roads and alleys
- Winter snow plowing and sanding of the Town’s road network
- Maintain sidewalks, curbs, gutters, pedestrian walkways, and asphalt
- Repair and replace street signs
- Haul equipment
- Maintain the Town’s storm network and storm ponds
- Perform brushing and ditch maintenance
- Undertake after-hours and weekend on call duties on a rotational basis
- Assist with traffic control
- Perform duties in accordance with all Town safety policies and OH&S requirements
- Assist other departments with operating duties, as required
- Required to work outside in all weather conditions
- Hours:
The work week is typically Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week but may include overtime, sudden change of shift time to meet operational needs, weekend and statutory holiday coverage shifts, as required.
Successful applicants will demonstrate on their resume:
- Minimum of Grade 12 education
- Class 3Q Alberta Driver’s Licence, with clean Driver’s Abstract
- Able to operate various maintenance equipment and tools
- Can work independently and cooperatively in a team environment
- Strong communication skills
- Training in First Aid, WHMIS, and Flag Person Safety are all considered assets
