Fire Codes, Permits, Inspections & Bylaws

Fire Codes, Permits, Inspections & Bylaws

We work in partnership with residents, businesses, building owners and managers to ensure the safety of employees, customers, and members of the public.

Inspections

As with any food service establishment, mobile food trucks have open flames, hot equipment, electrical connections, cooking oils, propane, flammable liquids, cleaning chemicals, engine oil and combustible products which provide all the ingredients for a fire ready to spread out of control.

A fire can devastate your mobile food business, leading to lost revenues, potential permanent closure or worse, personal injury or death.

Food trucks (Mobile Cooking Operations or MCO) require inspections and approvals to be able to operate in the Town of Strathmore.

Mobile Food Truck Approval Process

Application for MCO Permit

  • You must have a valid fireworks permit to sell, purchase or set off fireworks in Strathmore. There is no charge for a fireworks permit.

  • Consumer fireworks are often discharged at special events such as Canada Day, Diwali, New Year’s Eve, and other private celebratory events.

  • There are penalties for discharging fireworks without a permit or for being in violation of a fireworks permit regulation.

A Fire & Life Safety (FLS) Audit is a comprehensive examination of a building or facility to assess its level of compliance with fire safety regulations and standards. Building and businesses must ensure compliance with the FLS Audit on a regular schedule.

  • The goal of the inspection is that everyone in a building can exit safety in the event of a fire or other life threatening emergency.

  • Fire alarms, smoke detectors, emergency lighting, sprinklers and fire extinguishers will be inspected as part of the audit.

  • The inspection will identify any potential fire risks such as blocked exits, damaged fire protection systems, or improper storage of combustible materials.

  • Events like concerts, rodeos, street festivals, fundraisers, large public celebrations, and fairs etc. occur throughout the year in Strathmore.
  • Depending on what type of event you are organizing, you will have to get a variety of permits and meet a number of safety regulations.
  • We encourage anyone who is part of an event to be familiar with the event's fire safety practices and procedures.

Questions or concerns? The Strathmore Fire Department is here to work with each resident and business to ensure their building is up to code, and will address any concerns or questions that arise, while guiding you through the inspection process.  call 403-934-3022 or email firehall@strathmore.ca
