The role of Planning & Development is to develop a framework and plans to guide decisions for land use, infrastructure, and future growth for the Town of Strathmore.

Plans, policies and related bylaws help guide decision making that positively impacts quality-of-life for residents and creates a positive environment for business and development. Alignment with the Town's Strategic Plan and Vision, along with public transparency and engagement help to ensure decisions align with the community's vision and needs. The key documents guiding growth are the Town's Municipal Development Plan and its Land Use Bylaw. 

To ensure orderly and sustainable development is carried out within the Town, the Planning & Development department sets out processes to ensure projects comply with municipal planning policies, Alberta Building Code and safety standards. This includes requirements for Building and Development Permits and Safety Code permits compliance and inspections for residential, commercial and industrial projects. The department also oversees the Business License process.
