Traffic Control & Management

Traffic Control & Management in the Town of Strathmore

The Town of Strathmore is committed to your safety when using roads, sidewalks and pathways. Community Bylaw and Peace Officers are empowered to enforce and patrol the following, working closely with the RCMP.

The Traffic Safety Act is the primary legislation governing traffic on all public roadways, including those within municipal limits. This Act promotes safety on the province's highways, the definition of which includes any street, road, sidewalk or bridge that the public is ordinarily entitled or permitted to use.

Under the Traffic Safety Act, the Town of Strathmore's Bylaw and Peace Officers have the authority to enact and enforce bylaws related to traffic safety within its jurisdiction. This includes (but is not limited to) the following:

  • Regulate and enforce speed limits

  • Enforce compliance at stop signs and traffic light signals

  • Patrol school and playground zones

  • Ensure compliance with Recreational Vehicle parking
  • Monitor areas with a high number of complaints or infractions

  • Assist with traffic management during special events
  • Motor vehicle administration, including license, registration and insurance requirements;

  • Disqualifications from driving, including disqualifications arising from impaired driving and other offences;

  • Commercial motor transport

The Province of Alberta also has legislation in place to protect roadside workers through posted speed limits and traffic controls in place.

The Town of Strathmore is located on the Trans Canada Highway, bringing a lot of traffic through and into our municipality. It is important to ensure all drivers obey traffic rules for the safety of other drivers and users of roads, sidewalks and pathways.
