Stage 4 Water Restrictions
The City of Calgary has enacted Stage 4 Water Restrictions due to a water main break and have asked surrounding communities to do so as well. Effective December 31, the Town of Strathmore has implemented Stage 4 Water Restrictions. These restrictions mean:
• No outdoor water use (e.g., flooding outdoor ice surfaces)
• Indoor facilities such as pools, rinks, and recreation facilities will remain open
Please consider taking the following steps to reduce water consumption:
• Limit showers to under 3 minutes
• Flush toilets only when necessary
• Run dishwashers and laundry only when full
As we navigate Stage 4 Water Restrictions, our water system operator, EPCOR, is proactively topping our reservoirs to ensure we have adequate water reserves to support essential services and maintain system stability. While EPCOR manages operations behind the scenes, our community’s continued efforts to conserve water remain critical. Reduced demand helps keep reservoir levels strong and supports system reliability until Calgary’s system is fully restored.
No fire ban currently in effect.

Fire bans are implemented by the Fire Chief to prevent community fires. They temporarily ban backyard fire pits when conditions are hot and dry.
Residents are permitted to have a fire in a backyard fire pit when there is no fire ban in effect. Please continue to take precautions when having a backyard fire when no ban is implemented by using clean, dry firewood and ensuring that your fire is completely out before leaving.
Urban fire response differ significantly from rural response. Access to water supply and size of the fire district all play roles in determining the level of advisory or ban in place. Because of this, fire bans in The Town of Strathmore may differ from fire bans in Wheatland County. Watch this page for the most up-to-date information on Fire Advisories.
A fire advisory is issued to inform residents about conditions which pose a moderate to high fire risk. Fire advisories may be issued during unusually dry or hot conditions and may stay in effect despite rain or snow. Advisories are issued for safety while the Strathmore Fire Department continually monitors conditions. Any updates to fire advisories or bans will be posted to this page.
A fire restriction prohibits the use of wood campfires on public land but does allow wood campfires inside provincial campgrounds and private property. Fire permits may be restricted, suspended or cancelled and no new fire permits will be issued.
A fire ban occurs when the fire hazard in the area is extreme. Large erratic-behaving wildfires can start quickly and spread extremely fast through dry grass or slash. This type of fire could escalate with any type of wind. A fire ban will remain in place until conditions improve.
