Strathmore Selects Calgary 911 for enhanced 911 Call-Taking and Fire Dispatch Services
The Town of Strathmore has selected Calgary 911 as it’s new provider for 911 call-taking and fire dispatch service following a comprehensive review of emergency communications service delivery options.
The decision follows direction from Council at the March 4, 2026 Regular Council Meeting, where Administration was asked to evaluate both current and alternative models for fire dispatch and 911 call-taking services in the community.
As part of the review, providers were evaluated based on service scale, staffing structure, operational capacity, technology, and familiarity with the region. Calgary 911 emerged as the preferred provider due to its extensive experience, advanced emergency communications systems, strong regional presence, while also providing a significant reduction in service costs for the Town.
Calgary 911 currently supports approximately 1.7 million residents and provides dispatch services for 12 fire departments across the region. The organization also has longstanding experience in the Strathmore and Wheatland area, having dispatched rural EMS services locally for 15 years prior to Alberta Health Services centralizing dispatch operations in 2019.
The transition will provide Strathmore with access to advanced emergency communications technology, including GPS-based caller location tools and Next Generation 9-1-1 capabilities. The move is also expected to improve long-term operational sustainability while delivering cost savings for the community.
This decision supports the Town’s strategic priorities of Community Safety and Wellbeing and Financial Resilience by ensuring residents, visitors, and emergency responders continue to receive reliable and effective emergency communications services at a competitive cost.
The transition also aligns with regional service delivery efforts. Wheatland County approved a similar transition to Calgary 911 during its April 21, 2026 Council Meeting.
“As Strathmore continues to grow, it is important that our emergency communications systems grow with us,” said Mayor Pat Fule. “Calgary 911 has the scale, operational capacity, and regional understanding needed to support our community now and into the future.”
Mayor Fule also acknowledged the contributions of the Wheatland and Area Emergency Medical Services Association (WADEMSA).
“We appreciate the service WADEMSA has provided to Strathmore through fire dispatch and 911 call-taking over the past 20+ years and their continued role serving Strathmore and Wheatland County as a contracted ambulance provider for Alberta Health Services,” he said.
The Town of Strathmore will now work with Calgary 911 and other stakeholders to develop a detailed implementation plan, including transition timelines, training, service levels, communications protocols, and measures to ensure uninterrupted service throughout the transition process.
