Strathmore Fire Department Recruiting Paid-On-Call Firefighters

Strathmore Fire Department Recruiting Paid-On-Call Firefighters
STRATHMORE, ALBERTA – June 30, 2025 – The Strathmore Fire Department is looking for everyday residents who are ready to do something extraordinary.
Recruitment is now open for paid-on-call firefighters. These community members step up to protect their neighbours when it matters most. Whether you're a parent, student, tradesperson, or small business owner, you could be the next to answer the call.
Across Canada, more than 70% of firefighters are volunteers, and Strathmore is no different. While the title here is “paid-on-call,” the spirit is the same: everyday people generously offering their time and skills in service to the community.
“We rely on our paid-on-call firefighters everyday,” said Fire Chief David Sturgeon, who also serves as the Town’s Director of Emergency Management. “They respond to fires, medical emergencies, and support our full-time staff when multiple incidents happen at once. We couldn’t deliver the level of service we do without them.”
This opportunity is open to a wide range of residents and no firefighting experience is required. The department provides all training, gear, and ongoing support. Paid-on-call members are also compensated for every hour they spend responding to emergencies, attending training sessions, and participating in other approved activities.
You don’t need to be a superhero. You don’t have to quit your day job. All you need is an interest in making a difference.
