Council Approves Strathmore Affordable Housing Society Bylaws

Incorporation of Housing Society to follow

STRATHMORE, Alberta | March 11, 2024 – Council approved the amended Strathmore Affordable Housing Society bylaws presented at the Wednesday, March 6, 2024, Regular Meeting of Council.

With approval of the Strathmore Affordable Housing Society bylaws, Council has empowered the Society to officially incorporate and begin administration of the Bayside Affordable Housing program.

The Town of Strathmore provides a wide range of programs and services that residents rely on every day, creating an equally wide and complex range of risks and opportunities. As Council’s Strategic Plan unfolds, Town staff work to ensure the significant risks identified by the organization, and confirmed and prioritized by Town Council, are being addressed in a positive, systematic, and productive way.

“Establishing the Strathmore Affordable Housing Society advances the town's goals while mitigating potential legal risks previously faced through managing the affordable housing program in its current structure.” Said Mark Pretzlaff, Director of Community and Protective Services, adding “We look forward to working with relevant stakeholders to complete the Society’s incorporation and ensuring a smooth transition of the program.”

“The approval of these bylaws continues to demonstrate Council’s commitment to Strathmore’s strategic priorities to create an affordable community for residents and businesses, enabling access to housing, services, and supports, and to create community wellness focused on the maintenance, protection, and improvement of services that support optimum lifestyles, all while ensuring financial sustainability,” said Pat Fule, Mayor of the Town of Strathmore.

The Bayside Affordable Housing Program provides an opportunity for low-income citizens to own a home where they may not have an opportunity otherwise.
