Regular Council Meeting
Meeting date: Wednesday, June 24, 2026
In attendance: Mayor Fule, Councillor Brown, Councillor Chisholm, Councillor Hyde, Councillor Langmaid, Councillor Wegener and Deputy Mayor Wiley (virtual)
- Council adopted the meeting minutes from June 3, 2026 and added an emergent item to the agenda, a letter of support for the Prairie Economic Gateway.
BUSINESS
Council Meeting Schedule Amendments – June 2026
- Council was asked to consider whether or not they would like to alter the July 2026 meeting schedule. This Administration recommended alteration would allow for Council to attend an offsite advocacy event.
- Council directed Administration to cancel the Regular Council Meeting scheduled for July 8, 2026 at 6:00 p.m., the updated schedule has been posted to the Town’s website.
Property Tax Recovery – Auction Advertisement
- Council was advised that, in accordance with the Municipal Government Act, the Town of Strathmore may proceed with a tax auction for properties with tax arrears exceeding two years. There are currently four properties that qualify. The auction is scheduled for October 8, 2026.
- Council directed Administration to proceed with advertising the October 8, 2026, Tax Recovery Auction for properties in arrears, pursuant to Section 421(1) of the Municipal Government Act.
Strathmore and District Agricultural Society Agreement
- Council reviewed the request for an extension of time to complete negotiations on the new long-term operating agreement between the Town and the Strathmore and District Agricultural Society.
- Council authorized the extension of the deadline for contract negotiations with the Strathmore and District Agricultural Society to the end of Q1 2027.
Lease Extension Agreement – Range Rd 250
- Council reviewed the extension of the land lease with Delta Force Paintball Canada Limited, the agreement covers a site of approximately 22 acres located on the west side of Range Road 250, on the east edge of Strathmore.
- Council approved the lease agreement for a one-year extension.
Fire Mutual Aid Agreement – City of Calgary Fire Department
- Administration informed Council of their intent to enter into a Secondary Emergency Response Fire Services Agreement with the City of Calgary. This will support large, complex, and escalating incidents within our community.
- Council accepted the report as information.
Letter of Support – Prairie Economic Gateway
- The Prairie Economic Gateway is a proposed rail-served industrial development along the border between The City of Calgary and Rocky View County that will unlock new opportunities in manufacturing, logistics, processing and distribution. This project is led by the City of Calgary.
- The Prairie Economic Gateway team was invited to apply for funding through Transport Canada via their Trade Diversification Corridors Fund. They are hoping to secure letters of support from surrounding municipalities. Administration was informed of this request on June 23 and, as the timelines are not conducive to following the Letter of Support Policy, the request for a draft letter was brought to Council for approval.
- Council authorized Mayor Fule to sign the Letter of Support for the Prairie Economic Gateway's funding application.
CORRESPONDENCE
Accessibility Committee Request
- Strathmore Accessibility Committee send a letter requesting that Council prioritizes the accessibility improvements within the Splash Park project to ensure the space is welcoming and usable for all residents and visitors.
Thank you from Mister Wright
- The Honourable Justin Wright wrote thanks to Council for their congratulations on his appointment as Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services.
COUNCILLOR QUESTIONS AND STATEMENTS
Community Futures Wildrose
- Councillor Brown stated that he and Councillor Hyde attended the Community Futures Wild Rose Annual General Meeting last week and he commends them on the work that they have been doing for business in the community.
E-bikes
- Mayor Fule asked CAO Scoble about plans for addressing e-bikes and e-scooters on sidewalks. It was stated that this was being reviewed for a future meeting.
Parkland Drive drainage
- Councillor Hyde shared that he has received concerns from residents on Parklane Drive about insufficient drainage on the pathway along George Freeman Trail, they have reached out to the Town and have not been satisfied with the answers. He asked what the next steps would be. CAO Scoble stated that he would look into the issue.
