Council approves Strathmore's 2024 Operating and Capital Budgets.

STRATHMORE, ALBERTA | NOVEMBER 16, 2023 – Council approves Strathmore’s 2024 Operating and Capital Budgets.

At the December 6, 2023 Regular Council Meeting, Strathmore Town Council approved a recommended $37,704,700 Operating and $7,014,000 Capital budgets for a total combined 2024 budget of $44,718,700. The adoption of the 2024 budget concluded a process that began in May 2023.

“Administration prepared the 2024 Operating and Capital Budgets, in alignment with Council’s 2022-2025 Strategic Plan. This year, the Town followed an extensive process that included holding a Citizen Budget Cafe, a review of Budget Information Requests, and deliberation of the proposed budget in November.” said Kara Rusk, Director of Strategic, Administrative, and Financial Services.

The 2024 budget ensures that the Town can continue to deliver the many services that Strathmore’s residents and business rely on, while also investing in new capital projects. These services include water and wastewater services, snow removal, road maintenance, garbage collection, recreation, etc.

“This process presented Council with many challenges, as our residents and municipality have been dealing with the impacts of inflation for over a year. I am proud that we were able to pass a budget that is fiscally responsible and supports our residents by investing in essential programs, services, and infrastructure.” said Mayor Pat Fule.

A total 2024 budget of $44,718,700 equates to a 5.20 per cent levy increase over the 2023 budget. In relation to a typical home assessed at $391,000 in Strathmore, this would equal a property tax increase of roughly $175 per year, $14.58 per month, or an average weekly increase of $3.36 towards the services Strathmore residents rely on each day.
