Strathmore Aquatic Centre reaches milestone in community wellness and water safety.

STRATHMORE, ALBERTA | May 29, 2023 – The Strathmore Aquatic Centre is proud to announce its 20th anniversary! This milestone is a testament to the unwavering support of the community, the dedication of its staff, and the commitment to fostering a healthy and active lifestyle for residents of all ages.

The Aquatic Centre owes its success, in part, to the stable and energetic leadership of Aquatic Centre Manager, Natasha Barron, who has managed the facility for it’s full 20 years.

“It’s so exciting to hit this milestone. Over these years we’ve worked together to provide recreation, fitness programs, and water safety in our community. I’ll be celebrating alongside past and present staff and patrons, who’s vibrancy and commitment to aquatics makes the Strathmore Aquatic Centre so much more than a pool. We’re really a hub for foundational learning, career development, personal growth and inclusive fitness opportunities,” said Barron.

Over the past two decades, the Aquatic Centre has proudly taught 67,478 children the essential life skill of swimming, ensuring their safety in and around water. In addition, it has welcomed an astounding 745,000 admissions, providing a safe and enjoyable space for individuals and families to engage in aquatic activities.

The Strathmore Aquatic Centre has been at the forefront of promoting community wellness and engagement. The facility has hosted numerous Swim-A-Thons, kayak courses, cardboard boat races, aquasize classes, scuba club activities, and triathlons. Allowing participants to develop new skills, forge lasting friendships, and embrace the spirit of healthy competition.

The Strathmore Aquatic Centre had the privilege of hosting the prestigious 55+ Games in 2015, providing an exceptional venue for athletes from across the region to compete and celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship.

The Aquatic Centre has also played a pivotal role in nurturing competitive swimming in the community as the home of the Strathmore Silver Sharks Swim Club. The Club has produced numerous accomplished athletes who have excelled at local, provincial, and national levels. Additionally, the Aquatic Centre is also home to the Strathmore Polominos Water Polo Club.

“A community is improved by a pool, one hundred percent. It provides space for people of all ages to exercise and care for their health. It’s an after school and summer hotspot for local kids, keeping them active in a safe environment. We provide job opportunities for local youth and add economic development value to the Town. It’s a place for physical therapy, learning, enjoyment and fitness. We’ve taken great care of our facility so it can continue to serve our community for years to come,” Barron added.

As the Strathmore Aquatic Centre commemorates its 20th anniversary, it remains steadfast in its commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and vibrant environment for individuals of all ages to embrace aquatic activities, foster wellness, and create lifelong memories.

The Strathmore Aquatic Centre will host a community celebration on June 4th from 12:00p.m. to 6:00p.m.  The celebration includes free lane and public swims, treats, games, and prizes.
