Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Family and Civic Centre, the facility operator will be responsible for
ensuring the safety and quality of the ice surface, as well as performing routine maintenance
and cleaning tasks. You will also interact with the public and provide excellent customer service.

This is a casual position that requires flexibility and availability to work evenings and weekends.

NOTE: This is a temporary position for a 6-month term, with the possibility of extension based
on performance and business needs.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

General

  • Effective time management of multiple facility schedules
  • High expectation of communicating effectively in a team environment
  • Participating in the Town’s Health & Safety Program and following all workplace
    procedures

Ice & Plant Operations

  • Operation and maintenance of the ice resurfacers, ice edgers, lifts, and other
    equipment as required
  • Ensuring all daily/weekly/monthly etc. shift checklist and documentation are
    completed as required

Event Operations

  • Ensuring event setups/take-downs at the Civic Centre are completed on-time
  • Making periodic security sweeps of the facilities and enforcing facility rules

Facility Operations

  • Providing snow and ice control during snow fall events
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act plus other applicable codes
  • All aspects of facility janitorial duties including cleaning dressing rooms, washrooms,
    and walkways
  • Providing general repair and/or troubleshooting on facility equipment.
  • Operation of all HVAC and some light maintenance (replacing filters)
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Successful applicants will demonstrate on their resume:

  • Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Arena Operator Level 1 would be an asset
  • 1-2 years in a facility maintenance related role or related experience

Our Interview questions are intended to assess the following behaviours, skills and
experience:

  • A self starter with the ability to work independently and as a team
  • Proficient knowledge in facility maintenance repairs and control
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • How you prioritize tasks and have strong time-management skills
