During Remembrance Day in Strathmore, we join the millions across Canada who pay tribute to all those who died on duty since World War I. Remembrance Day is observed on the 11th of November to remind us of the official end to World War I in 1918. As a symbol of respect for the day, red poppies are worn as they have become a familiar symbol of Remembrance Day because of the images of red in the Flanders Fields. Bright red poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders during the war, presently located across parts of Belgium, France and Netherlands, during World War I.
Town Council and the Citizens of the Town of Strathmore are truly grateful to all those who fought for the freedoms and privileges embraced by us in Canada.
The Ode of Remembrance: They went with songs to the battle, they were young. Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.
Lest we forget.
