Response

A complaint to the Assessment Review Board may be made only by an assessed person or taxpayer, and may be about any of the following matters shown on the assessment notice:

  1. Assessment

  2. Assessment class

  3. Assessment sub-class

  4. The type of property

  5. Whether the property is assessable

  6. The type of improvement

  7. Whether the property is exempt from taxation under Part 10 of the Municipal Government Act.

If the following information shown on the assessment notice is incorrect, to eliminate the need to file a complaint, corrections can be made by contacting the Assessment Department at (403) 948-8855.

  8. The description of the property

  9. The name or mailing address of an assessed person or taxpayer

  10. School support

A complaint must be in writing and be accompanied by the appropriate appeal fee. The complaint must explain why the information shown on an assessment or tax notice is incorrect. Be specific and provide as much detail as possible. This will assist the assessor in reviewing your complaint. To facilitate the process and ensure accuracy, please attach a copy of your Assessment and Tax Notice. Please forward your complaints to:

Clerk of Assessment Review Board

Town of Strathmore

680 Westchester Road

Strathmore, Alberta, T1P1J1

The tax rate is set by Council each year to meet budget requirements and is not subject to a complaint before the Assessment Review Board. Even if you file a complaint, you must pay your taxes by the stated deadline.
