The Painted Quilt Project by Hope Bridges Society
Sponsored by The Town of Strathmore, W. Brett Wilson, Ron Renaud, Beerd Beekman and many other local partners.
In June 2014, Strathmore hosted “Let’s Make a Pitch”, an event that encouraged non-profits to pitch their ideas for beautifying the town, to a panel similar to “Dragon’s Den”. In fact, Dragon Brett Wilson was part of the panel along with real estate developer, Ron Renaud, and local oil service business owner, Beerd Beekman. This opportunity, along with the beautiful Painted Quilts of Ontario and the Atlantic coast, inspired Sheila Konschuh, Hope Bridges' friend and Founder, to make a pitch! The Painted Quilt Project is a metaphor for creative, inclusive community building, and to our delight, Sheila’s pitch won!

This $10 000.00 prize has allowed Hope Bridges to host opportunities for any adult to experience the power of connection and community spirit that happens while painting uniquely beautiful quilts.  As of Winter 2015, we have connected over 30 adults through doing the quilts and have found homes for 11 quilts.  We are happy to say that they are now playing a part in beautifying the town of Strathmore.  You can find these quilts on buildings around Strathmore including Wheatland Funeral Home, Chinook Financial, The Leary Centre, Standard Shoe Shop, Value Drug Mark and Strathmore Kids.

Our intention is to  keep making these quilts and create a huge trail.  We would like to see a mobile phone application for the trail as well as regular tours of the trail.  We believe it could be an excellent tourist attraction.

For more information on these quilts, to become involved or to book a tour, call 403 983 3640.
